As you are probably aware, juggs come in two flavors: recon and assault. The general perception is that recon is easier to get, and that's certainly true if you don't get 9 kill streaks. If you can get a reaper, though, I'd argue that assault comes way faster; 6 kills from a reaper and AC-130 isn't a terribly tall order. Either way, there are a few things to keep in mind:
DON'T LOSE YOUR BOX. You have to call it in, so do it in a safe place and let the herd know that you are calling it in and need help defending it. Nothing sucks more than getting sniped off your box and having to fight your own killstreak. Also, if they have reapers/AC-130s, etc. up, reconsider calling it in.
DO TAKE THEIR BOX. It's not a terrible idea to have someone keep a Predator on hand to shut down enemy killstreaks (talk about it with your team beforehand so there's no confusion), and getting a triple on guys guarding the jugger they just called in is pretty awesome. If you are playing against people who are smart, they will do stuff like this, and ideally you have a trophy system out to stop this kind of thing.
Once you have your juggs, be careful! JUGGERNAUTS CAN BE KILLED WITH A SINGLE SMAW. Don't just go charging around like an idiot! You can win just about any one on one gunfight, but power weapons can also kill you very quickly if you aren't careful. I have killed juggernauts by myself with ~50% of an M60 magazine, and also with 9 striker blasts. That's a lot of firepower, but even one person can put it out pretty quickly if you let them; two or three are a real threat.
Another very real danger to juggernauts is the riot shield. Juggernauts aren't fast enough to easily flank, and the melee can kill in as few as four hits, so you need to play smart. If a riot shield is standing, shoot their feet. If it's crouching, when they strafe left or right, their butt will poke out and can be shot. If you see a riot shield coming down a narrow hallway like on Lockdown or Seatown, do not engage! You can't do anything to them head on.
Thanks to Apple Dash for hilarious riot shielding.
So, that's a lot of warnings and cautions, what about the fun stuff? Well, consider how comfortable it is to be part of a herd:
I enjoy the popcorn sound our motion sensors were making.
One of the really great things about the recon jugger is that it's much easier to get your whole team suited up, solving both the problem of loneliness, and that of focused enemy fire.
It's also good to be smart about using your pistol vs your shield: at long range, or when you're facing down three guys, the shield is probably your best bet for living long enough to get rescued by your buddies. If people are charging you, though, it will take them long enough to raise their guns, etc. that you can certainly shoot them with your pistol. Reloading under fire is never your best option, but people will also be very wary about charging you after you get a few doubles, so you can scare people into letting your health regenerate. Be smart; The bottom line is that there is nothing wrong with using your shield to piss them off while your teammates flank.
Assault juggernauts can't retreat behind a shield so they need to be much more careful about not walking into rockets. They are, however, way better at holding choke points and fighting off groups. Don't be shy about prefiring or blowing up cars; you have scavenger and tons of ammo, and the bullet penetration on the M60 is good. Take advantage!
The same points about not reloading under fire and being smart apply. It's even more important to not chase people, engage on long sight lines where FMGs and Strikers can't wreck you, and stick with teammates who can watch your back. Also, get used to using LMGs; the iron sights and kick are unlike any other guns in the game.
